Leadership Development
Our intent is to help Hokies identify ways they can thrive as students, leaders and competitors. Through the Leadership Institute, student-athletes have a chance to connect with their peers, learn from each other and more importantly, share the student-athlete experience as a journey done together.
Leadership Institute
The Virginia Tech Athletics Leadership Institute allows student-athletes to take their leadership potential to new heights. Whether through its progressive leadership academy or other groups and programs, the Leadership Institute is designed specifically for student-athletes with a great focus on character development. Hokie student-athletes have a variety of opportunities to grows as leaders on and off their field of play while creating strong connections within and across teams.
Leadership Culture
This speaker series represents our belief that leaders create team culture and team culture drives results. This program will expose student-athletes to foundational concepts of leadership.
Next Level Leadership Academy
The Next Level Leadership Academy is a three-year progressive leadership program designed for student-athletes with high interest and potential in becoming leaders on their teams and in the world. The program’s curriculum focuses on character development and implementation of key skills that drive individuals and teams to succeed. Our motto is Lead Yourself. Lead Your Team. Leave Your Legacy.
Experiential Opportunities
The Leadership Institute offers an experiential leadership opportunity annually ranging from study abroad to domestic travel, to expose student-athletes to experience sports’ global influence and study leadership concepts outside of the campus setting. Since 2012, the program has traveled to the Dominican Republic, Switzerland, Rwanda and Colorado Springs.
